The once busy streets were now filled with an assortment of umbrellas, bobbing up and down like a colorful sea of shields, pedestrians scurrying about seeking refuge from the relentless downpour. The steady rhythm of droplets hitting the ground combined with the soft patter of footsteps echoed through the alleys, creating a melodic backdrop to the urban chaos.[break][break]

It was in this din of noise and visual clutter that Rowan was allowed to get as close to his target as he desired, silently shuffling up behind them with his own obsidian-colored umbrella in hand.[break][break]

"Jayden." He called out, just loud enough for them to hear over the surrounding crowd.[break][break]

A hand reached up to cradle his jaw, attempting to soothe the aching pain.[break][break]

Rowan could empathize with what Jayden was feeling, they were friends and he'd left them behind without even a goodbye, joining the forces of their enemy.[break][break]

"Michail Volkov wouldn't try to kill a Ranger in broad daylight, with witnesses."[break][break]

the jayden that Rowan Wrynn knew would not have lunged for him without reason. he would not have punched him, and certainly not in broad daylight. he would not have reached for him like a man starved, aiming to pummel all his hate-anger-betrayal feelings into one singular punch that surged into the soft flesh of his jaw.

[break][break] but this was not the jayden cross that rowan would know.

[break][break] this was the monster he had tried to hide on becoming.

[break][break] once upon a time, Rowan Wrynn had been surprised to learn that the rocket admin had one day indeed been apart of their kanto branch. it was because, compared to monsters like Cillian Quinn and THEO BECKETT, jayden was relatively tamed. at least, it seemed that way. when he hurt for his pokemon, or hurt for Chu-e Choi, or bled for rocket, he didn't seem like the kind of ruthless killer that the kanto regime was so well known for.
